Why I Chose a Concealer Spray
A few years agone, I needed to alloy in at some Christmas gatherings – a work party, a girls' night out, a family reunion… y'know, festive stuff. I however had a relatively full caput of pilus then, aside from one medium-sized patch at the dorsum.
I hadn't yet worked upwards the backbone to tell people near my baldness; so I was relying on strategically placed hairclips to keep my clandestine safety. Of course, at that fourth dimension of year, the weather condition had other ideas.
As soon as I stepped out the door, a gust of wind would send my difficult piece of work out with it. If I wore a hat, I couldn't take it off when I arrived at the eating place similar a hair-bearer could. Instead, I'd accept to beeline it to the bath, where I could remove the chapeau in peace before carefully rearranging my clips.
Sometimes, I ended up sitting through the unabridged evening in my party clothes and woolly hat. Flake of a strange await.
So I Plant a Special Baldheaded Spray...
Christmas came early when I establish a Fifty'Oréal spray that'southward fabricated to cover greys between colouring treatments. It'southward also designed to assistance those with thinning pilus, starting at the 'root' of the trouble.
I wondered if I could use it to hide my baldheaded patches, too. It seemed unlike from the cover-up sprays of red-faced men in cheesy Rogaine ads. This was something that lots of women used – and praised – then I was willing to give it a effort.
Fifty'Oréal Root Spray
How the Baldheaded Spot Camouflage Works
The clever concealer is much more than than spray paint for your head. It's a mix of dyes and nanofibres, which entwine with the hair you've already got. That plumps up and thickens your existing strands, providing coverage where you need it well-nigh. It'south instant. And effective. And pretty subtle, if you know how to use it!
Note: Since the concealer clings to existing strands, it'due south probably best for those with thinning pilus rather than those with widespread baldheaded spots. Simply if you've got a smallish alopecia patch, it can work wonders. At to the lowest degree, information technology did for me.
BTW, I've no connectedness to L'Oréal other than being sick to death of those "Y'all're Worth It" ads and their made-up "science fleck". I just plant this spray to be really useful. But the other products in this postal service could exist as every bit effective, if non more so.
Bald Spot Spray Benefits
50'Oréal's range of patch-covering sprays give you:
- Volume: The hair filler fibres cling to your existing locks, giving the illusion of a fuller mane.
- Coverage: Use the spray to hide baldheaded spots, areas of thinning and pesky greyness hairs, too!
- Affordability: Since there'southward a lot of contest in this field, this product is pretty cheap. And you don't need to buy a new tin after 1 or two applications; it lasts for upwardly to 40. Yay!
- Peace of heed: Something you can't put a price on anyhow, and something this spray brought me in spades.
Pros & Cons of Magic Root Cover Up
+ It'due south very constructive. The colour I chose didn't quite match my natural shade, simply information technology however did a bang-up job of camouflaging my bald spot – fifty-fifty when my pilus was too short to layer over it.
– It's fine from far abroad but… shut up it might look a bit like you've turned to the shoe smoothen for assistance. It besides can likewise exist a scrap flaky – so if y'all have very short hair and are roofing a big patch with the spray, don't permit people get as well about your noggin!
+ It lasts for ages. Until the next time you shampoo your hair, in fact – then if you don't wash it every day, you can relish its benefits for longer. Especially useful for summer festivals!
-Unless it's a rainy festival, of class. Because the spray is more "water resistant" than "waterproof" and if your head gets soaked, you lot could exist dealing with a streaky mascara effect. All down your face and cervix. Not the look you intended for those party pics.
+ It comes off easily. Fortunately, there's not much scrubbing involved when you practice want to remove it. A quick shampoo or a dab with some baby wipes and it's bye, bye dye.
– Information technology comes off a little too easily. Similar all over your bed sheets. Because fifty-fifty though the spray lasts a couple of days, the remainder even so rubs off on your pillow. And so take it off before bed, and wash your hands after each use.

How to Use Concealer Spray
To cover bald spots (e.one thousand. on the crown)…
Shake the can well. At beginning, hold it 8 inches from the patch and spray lightly before patting dry any excess residue. If you want thicker coverage, hold the can an inch or ii closer and striking the scalp equally direct as you can.
To cover grey roots or thinning hair (due east.g. at the hairline)…
Shake the tin, then hold information technology four–6 inches from the scalp. Spray both the root and partly upwardly the length of the hair to blend the colours. Pat dry out.
Et voilà , as those Parisians say – L'Oréal to the rescue!
How to Cull the Right Spray
If you don't fancy L'Oréal spray, deport the following in mind when shopping for a bald spot concealer.
Subtlety
You don't want the earth to know you're wearing a spray concealer, just like y'all don't want people to know you're wearing a wig to hide your pilus loss.
Colour Match
This one ties into the above point. Considering if you lot're a stake blonde with a large ol' patch of mahogany on your head, yous ain't taking the subtle approach! A lighter skin tone volition lucifer lighter sprays then on. So expect for a spray that gives you a wider palette.
Ingredients
To avoid damaging your existing hair, look for a spray that'due south made from natural ingredients. The best ones have natural hair fibres in them (similar man hair and Keratin) that blend easily with the residue of your locks.
Durability
The all-time sprays cover bald spots for an entire day… or fifty-fifty two. Yous want to have to scrub information technology off at nighttime rather than it disappearing in the midst of seducing your crush from work. So always look for one that'southward long-lasting, and waterproof.

Concealer Spray Alternatives
Magic Root Comprehend Upwardly is the merely baldheaded patch concealer I've used. And it worked out just fine. Simply there are other enough of other products available, some of which go glowing reviews for their ability to mask baldness.
Powders
Pilus loss powders get a pretty expert rep nowadays for disguising baldheaded spots, thanks to some serious static electricity bonding past negatively or positively charged fibres. (Ooh, magic!) Here's a powder that comes highly recommended in pilus loss forums.
Creams/lotions
These products normally dye the patch and comprise hair fibres to give the appearance of thicker hair.
Makeup
If you're worrying almost thinning hair and a visible scalp, mineral makeup could exist your key to roofing those baldheaded spots. Its ingredients assistance information technology to stick to the skin improve, even if yous're sweating – and then goodbye, streaks and flakes! Simply utilise it to the patch using a makeup sponge.
Oh, and some hair loss forums rave near using blackness eyeshadow to hibernate patches of alopecia, too. Although I'one thousand non certain how waterproof it would be… then skip this if you alive in a very rainy or sweat-inducing climate!
3 Tiptop Bald Spot Concealers
Bank check out these peak cover-up options and say "bye bye Baldielocks"!
1. Toppik
Toppik tops the list in many baldness forums. Information technology's super easy to apply – merely sprinkle the Keratin fibres directly onto your patches or around your hairline – and spotter your new roots sprout! Toppik doesn't but dye the patch like other products; instead the electrically charged fibres bond with your existing hair upon contact.
ii. Caboki
Caboki uses natural plant fibres for a hypoallergenic product that saves you lot from an irritated or itchy scalp. Apparently, these negatively charged fibres create a stronger bond and eliminate the adventure of the flat, dull pilus that positively charged fibres – constitute in other concealers – tin can create. Information technology's all terribly technical, really. Just information technology sounds good to me!
Caboki reviews are actually positive – but they recommend covering well-nigh of the applicator with tape for a smoother distribution. Alternatively, picket the cheesy product video to perfect the art of application.
iii. XFusion Economy
Some other massively pop product in the fibre-sprinkling field is XFusion Economy. Similar Toppik, the Keratin fibres bond with existing strands in some sort of romantic chemic plot. Y'all can sprinkle to your centre's content or use the spray applicator if yous adopt – just make sure to hold it at least 6 inches from your scalp. Reviews suggest that for even improve results, get the finishing spray to help the pulverisation stick and to give a prissy 'northward' good for you sheen to your locks.
Don't Desire a Camouflage?
Of class, maybe you don't experience like using a concealer for your baldheaded spots at all. In these cases, I can offer upward a few ideas:
1. Endeavor to regrow hair naturally
Easier said than washed, right? Obviously. Otherwise Lady Alopecia wouldn't be. But by making a few dietary changes (like avoiding inflammatory foods) and a few lifestyle changes to lower stress, you lot might showtime to see regrowth.
And don't fail your scalp, either. Employ the all-time products for its wellness and go for a head massage as often equally you lot can. You deserve it. (Or should I say, "Considering you're worth information technology"?!)
two. Invest in an alopecia wig
It'due south what I did for years and although I eventually got sick of styling and wearing them, wigs gave me an enormous confidence heave at the fourth dimension. Whether you choose synthetic or human hair wigs, full headpieces or extensions, you tin cover those patches entirely with hair… fifty-fifty if information technology ain't yours.
3. Go some headwear
I now have a full drawer of headscarves, for when I need to cover my baldness all day long. They requite me a splash of colour and I always get compliments for them! I love them so much, in fact, that I started making and selling my own.
4. Get for the chop
If you're sick of constantly worrying nearly your bald patches showing, practice something that puts you back in control. Shave all your hair off, like I did. Nix to hibernate, so no need for a concealer. 'Nuff said.
Last Thoughts: Spray For a Day… Then Put it Away!
My concealer spray covered my bald spots and helped my conviction during the holiday season. Simply I fabricated sure to nip it in the bud come Jan, as I didn't desire to rely on it too much.
Why? Well, just similar I wouldn't recommend teasing and freezing your hair into place with hairspray on a continuous basis, I tin can't advocate daily use of these products, either.
Because with all those chemicals, yous're not doing your existing hair whatsoever favours. And although the Magic Root Comprehend Up is ammonia and peroxide-free, and the other options use natural fibres, I nevertheless don't like what they could do to hair that's already in a weakened state.
So no, I wouldn't recommend root concealer spray as a long-term solution for covering bald spots. But information technology DOES brand a smashing quick fix in times of crunch!
My advice? Keep a bottle in the bathroom for special occasions, when you don't want to worry well-nigh your hair for a alter. The residue of the fourth dimension, let those bald spots breathe!
Forget most blending in, prepare to stand out, and allow yourself shine.

Howdy Emma,
I'k 55 and experienced hairloss after the pandemic hit. I thought it was simply stress, but it'southward a year later, and no change. It's made me feel depressed. Then I feel bad for feeling that way when people take died, lost their jobs etc… its 'only' hair, right? I'k looking into PRP or PRF therapy correct now as its shown some hope for hairloss. Thanks over again for all the great info!
Hello Tracy,
Thanks so much for your comment and I'm very sorry for the belatedly response…I just had a babe a few months ago so I've been taking a piddling break!
My heart goes out to you for your recent feel. It's been a tough enough two years, without having to deal with hair loss as well! Equally I wrote in this postal service, rates of pilus loss take risen higher than ever as a result of the pandemic, then you lot're not solitary. And try non to beat yourself up nigh feeling depressed about information technology…certain, I can wait back at present and say it's 'only' hair, but I wasn't always that way! Y'all're totally entitled to your feelings and emotions and they are very real. There's absolutely no suffering calibration here, but our own experiences and yours is no 'less' than anyone else's. And so please exist kind to yourself, and to your body as much equally you can.
Wishing you lot all the very best with the therapies you lot've mentioned and if y'all're interested in a holistic appraoch, feel free to cheque out my post on nutrition and this one on oils.
All the very best, Tracy. Take good care of yourself.

I have baldness for 21 years the just affair that works is the Rogaine extra strength for men I've tried everything for my alopecia my dermatologist said thats the only thing that works a petty Rogaine
Hi Roberta, thanks for sharing your feel! I personally wouldn't abet the use of Rogaine products as they contain minoxidil, which can have pretty nasty side effects (headaches, dizziness, thinning of the scalp and long-term immune organisation problems). Unfortunately, so many dermatologists will prescribe minoxidil as information technology tin can be a 'quick fix' – just at what cost? These products only address the symptom (hair loss) rather than the root cause – which could be annihilation from hormone imbalance to gut inflammation to stress. I but share this because I used to use minoxidil – and wish someone had told me nearly its negative side effects before.
Unfortunately, your dermatologist is being a little bigoted to say 'the only thing that works' is Rogaine. That's but not truthful. Alopecia can exist triggered by lots of different things so it will take different things to encourage regrowth. A few examples: I've heard personal accounts from plenty of alopecians who've establish that switching to an AIP anti-inflammatory diet has reversed their symptoms. Nioxin worked for me in the past. Plus, if you read my post on peppermint oil, you'll meet it can be just as effective equally minoxidil, without the toxic side effects.
I just share this with you to offering upward some more natural alternatives, or a holistic approach, rather than using something that'southward so chemic-heavy. Merely of course, you accept to exercise what feels right for you!! Thanks once again for sharing your experience and wishing yous all the very all-time.

I absolutely LOVE Loreal Root Cover For hiding my scalp. However, I truly believe it has caused increased hair loss. I have decided to only utilise it on special occasions.
Hi Louise, thanks so much for your annotate! Aye, I run into your point – I didn't love using so many chemicals on my baldheaded patch, either. But I did honey having it as my "secret weapon" for special occasions like you said! 🙂
Love that I found this site. Recently diagnosed with alopecia (they are guessing stress induced) it has been a very emotional calendar month for me. I am trying and learning to exist more accepting of it to hopefully aid reduce the even greater stress I have from going through this… simply I remember I'll feel more comfy disguising information technology with sprays for now. Baby steps 🙂 Thanks for this though…. it's comforting to know that I'm not a "lepper".
Hello Shontel,
I really appreciate your lovely comment, thank y'all and so much! It's why I'thou here. 🙂 And I'chiliad so sorry to hear about your contempo diagnosis, I know how frustrating it is to exist told it'southward stress-induced and feel like at that place'due south little you tin can do to stop information technology. Simply rest assured, the hair will frequently grow back independently without any handling – and to feel similar yous have some control over the condition, yous tin can always treat yourself to a nightly scalp massage with kokosnoot, neem or castor oil! And there'due south nothing wrong with disguising it for at present while y'all're not comfy. Do what works for y'all, yous'll get there! Never feel like you're alone or that there'south something wrong with you – alopecia is in fact incredibly common and since starting this site I'm realising just how many people – fifty-fifty some close friends of mine – either have it or know someone who has. Mentum up, yous're doing amazingly. And thanks once more for your message, it means a lot. x
Really helpful to have found this website. I've had alopecia areata for many years now but it's currently in the worst status it's always been which is becoming harder to disguise. But wondering if you have ever tried Chinese medicine herbs or acupuncture? I'm currently looking into this option as not smashing on going back to the gp for a dermatology referral. I had a successful round of steroid injections a few years ago just the patches are so big and joined upward now around the whole lesser of my head that I'grand not sure what other options would be available to me. Information technology definitely impacts on my stress and feet levels.
How-do-you-do Laura,
I'm so pitiful to hear about your AA getting worse. I know how encarmine frustrating it is – I myself was perfectly happy with my teeny mohawk until postpartum hair loss took even that away from me! Yep, I've tried acupuncture a few times, only it didn't make any difference, unfortunately. I did get some medicinal herbs when travelling in Indonesia before and they helped out in the short-term but the patches came back somewhen. For me, the most benign affair was going to see a Functional Medicine dr., who took a holistic approach to treat the root crusade. I've long favoured natural remedies (every bit I mention hither) and had terrible side furnishings from those steroid injections you mention…also don't think they're a long-term solution as y'all're not meant to get more than a couple of rounds without them damaging the scalp. I was diagnosed with gut dysbiosis, meaning I'd inflammation present and a couple of food intolerances. Since starting an anti-inflammatory diet and taking key supplements, I was able to contrary this and saw a lot of hair growth (merely I fell off the wagon when pregnant and started having gluten again).
I'd advise exploring other options as you suggested. Like going to an FM medico, a nutritionist, taking up a stress-relieving activity to lower inflammation or using all-natural products like Revita (full post here!) Y'all tin start to care for your AA with a gentler, more long-term strategy than with the 'quick fixes' your dermatologist recommended. I'm not a md, I can only speak from my experience, simply that's an arroyo I'd recommend for you, especially if you're feeling stressed or anxious. And in the meantime, in that location's always my headscarves, or my yoga for alopecia course, if you lot like!
Take care Laura, all the very best.
Emma / Lady Alopecia xo
Hey, simply desire to say y'all're great! I take traction/stress alopecia. Been baldheaded at the sides of my head 15 years at present. I'1000 38 now. I am all the same trying to convince myself it's not that bad I'one thousand not that bothered about it but the truth is I am. Every bit I'm getting older it's bothering me a lot more, plus I've noticed it's starting to spread into my hairline at the front of my head so information technology's getting a lot more than noticeable. The sprays are not bad but like you lot said I was getting into a addiction of wearing it every day and knew it couldn't be doing me whatever good. I am thinking of getting a nice cut to cease me from wearing my hair up merely I just tin't help it. I don't think I await good with my hair downward, my face up is small and circular so in my head I expect thinner when it'southward up, jeez I can't win with myself 😣 anyway pitiful for the rant
Hi Emma! Thank you so much for your lovely annotate and for sharing your story. I know what it's like to watch the patches spread and to feel helpless about it. And even though I've come to terms with it, right now my pilus is going through a serious shedding phase and it can be then frustrating (not to mention, seriously annoying to clear upward later on – my poor bathroom floor! 😉 ) I would say go for the chop if you think it would crusade you to worry about information technology less during the 24-hour interval. Talk to a hairdresser about a funky manner so y'all can vesture your pilus downwards while emphasising your best features. They know what they're doing! And it might give you huge relief to not have to tie it up every day or to apply sprays. I know I'g much happier now that I stopped trying to hide it…but that's merely my experience. I wish you all the best with whatever you make up one's mind!! x
